First, why to carry out ten gigabit optical network pilot work?
A: Ten Gigabit optical network is the upgrading and evolution direction of the next generation optical network, and it is an important part of the new information infrastructure. The 10-gigabit optical network can provide users with 10-gigabit access capabilities, mainly including 50G-PON (passive optical network) ultra-wide optical access, FTTH (fiber to the home) /FTTR (fiber to the room) and the 7th generation wireless LAN collaboration, high-speed large-capacity optical transmission, optical network and artificial intelligence integration and other key technologies. Promoting the development of ten Gigabit optical network plays an important supporting role in stimulating effective investment, improving user experience, promoting new information consumption, promoting new industrialization, and helping the digital transformation of economy and society.

Since 2021, in accordance with the decision and deployment of the Party Central Committee and The State Council, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has organized the implementation of the "double Gigabit" network coordinated development action, solidly promoted the construction and development of gigabit optical networks, and achieved positive results, built the world's largest and technologically advanced optical network infrastructure, and achieved "gigabit access to counties and villages and broadband access". The number of 10G-PON ports reached 27.92 million, gigabit optical network users reached 209 million, and typical application cases exceeded 20,000. At present, new services and applications such as cloud games, XR/ meta-universe, and high-precision industrial quality inspection continue to emerge, which puts forward the demand for optical networks with greater bandwidth, lower latency, and higher reliability, and urgently needs to accelerate the evolution of gigabit optical networks to 10-gigabit optical networks. At present, some areas of China have carried out the application of ten gigabit optical network exploration work. For example, Beijing and Shanghai have issued support policies to promote the development of ten trillion optical network technology industry, and Jiangsu has launched the construction of "ten trillion industrial Park".

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology organized the pilot ten Gigabit optical network, which aims to take the pilot work as the traction to promote all parties in the industrial chain to accelerate the collaborative solution of the key and difficult problems in the current ten Gigabit optical network landing application, drive China's ten Gigabit optical network core technology and key equipment to make breakthroughs, and promote the construction of ten Gigabit optical network mature industrial chain and complete industrial system.
